Any Windows 7 tool to give me a file count in a folder including subfolders?

Non-Microsoft but a couple of free tools – FoldersReport & WinDirStat.

        Thanks.

FolderReport hasn’t been updated in a number of years and didn’t say it was designed for Windows 7.

WinDirStat is newer, update wise, and also says it is designed to run on Windows 7. And as always I scanned with MSE and VirusTotal and it passed both scans.

Directory Opus is considered by some to be THE file manager but a bit expensive. Personally would not be without it and very configurable. One can download a copy and test for 60 days. http://www.gpsoft.com.au/dscripts/download.asp

OR – the minimalist solution (no installation required):

Open a CMD window in the parent folder and type:
      dir *.* /w /s
      and hit enter
A list of all the files will go flying by, and at the end you will get a summary. eg:

      Total Files Listed:
      1650 File(s) 3,961,434,782 bytes
      29 Dir(s) 764,189,962,240 bytes free

Why not right-click the folder in Explorer and select properties. The folder and file count will show up once Explorer finishes counting them.

The xplorer2 Windows Explorer replacement will give you a “Contents’ Column ==>> http://zabkat.com/x2lite.htm

The Folder Size program will give you details about a folder’s contents from the right click menu ==>>http://www.mindgems.com/products/Folder-Size/Folder-Size.html

I use the built-in Shift key plus right-click on a Folder and choose Open command window here then use DOS commands such as DIR /S /O>dir.txt to create a text listing of the contents of the Folder.

Before you wonder "Am I doing things right," ask "Am I doing the right things?"
