Am I doing sometning wrong? I get a mail w/attached .xls file. I want to create a meeting with those involved, so I drag the mail item from my inbox to the calendar thing on the folders list. It opens up a meeting request and I fill it out. I want the .xls file to go along with the request or else how would the invitees know what I’m talking about? Yet it does not….I see a text reference to a file. Is there some way I do not know about? I tried finding the item in the OLK7 file but I couldn’t find that !@#$ folder. So, is it impossible to include an email attachment in a meeting request? thanks.

Looks like drag-&-drop doesn’t carry the Attachment(s). But all is not lost – you can separately create the Appointment and then Insert the message using the Insert Item dialog from the Appointment, and the Attachment is preserved.

(I usually insert the attachment directly in the appointment on the assumption that if users don’t see it, they may not look for it in the attached message. Nothing like wasting the first ten minutes of a teleconference bringing the technically inept up to speed on how to get to the attachment, which they then want to print on a printer that just ran out of paper and only their assistant knows how to reload it … )

Ok, but I cannot seem to find the folder that would have the xls file I want to attach. I have looked in local settingstemporary internet files but see only cookies. When I open a file attachment to an email, the OLK7 folder is identifed in a saveas dialog box, but I cannot find it using explorer.

You don’t need find the file in the temp OLK folders. Copy it from the Message and paste into the Appointment, or Insert the Message containing the Attachment to the Appointment. See this thread on copying attachments between messages, it applies to copying Attachments between any Outlook Items that can hold an Attachment..

(Some cautious users would recommend that you first save the file to some location, and insert it from there. It adds a little security in case your machine has a failure, but I never bother with it.)

Neither shift-drag&drop nor CTRL-drag&drop to Calendar preserves the Attachments in Outlook 2003.

Before you do this make a back-up copy of the xls file just in case.
Have you tried holding the shift key down while dragging ?
