• Backup program recommendation for XP

    Hello:

    I am tired of the problems with the backup program that comes with WinXP. I need something better, and I’m willing to pay for it.

    So, can anybody recommend a solid program that will allow me

    (1) to specify folders to backup to my drive G (actually, my Iomega Peerless drive);
    (2) to back up only those files that have changed within said folders between full backups, and
    (3) to schedule these backups, which the program will then run automatically?

    Thanks so much!

      Hi Jon,

      This is a free program that performs all the actions you listed and so far has proved great for personal use.
      It’s well known in this Board: Karen’s Replicator. In this link you’ll find the link to it and to many other free apps.

        I am in huge trouble. I just downloaded Replicator, and as a test job I had the program backup the My Documents folder to drive D

          They should be in your “Recyle bin” unless you have emptied it or have the settings set not to use it.

          It doesn’t help if you duplicate posts, Jon. You already have another thread going on this topic, so why not see how you make out there, OK?

      Yeah, I second Diegol’s recommendation and have recommended Karen’s program many times! The only “wish” I have written to her about a couple of times over the years, is that she would make Replicator a “click-to-select-files” kind of GUI. As it stands now, it’s a little klutzy creating file filters if you have a branch of a directory that has one or more SUB-directories that you DON’T want copied. A good example is something like a Mozilla or Netscape profile that has a few sub-directories, one of which is the cache.

      If you still decide you want something else to check, I’m currently using Backup Now to do nightly selected files backup and it’s been working OK for a couple of months. There must be a gazillion such programs out there and it’s a real pain in the tush checking them out. Good luck.

      I bought Backup+ from Avantrix moons ago. I find it easy to use and can schedule backups whist I’m asleep, split large files to cd size, etc etc. Worth a look: http://www.avantrix.com/%5B/url%5D
