I have Windows XP with SP1. My portable is a Sony Viao with two USB 1.1 ports. I inserted the Belkin Notebook card into the slot and it was immediately detected. When I plugged a usb memory stick in it was not recognised. I then installed the drivers from the Belkin disk. Again, the card was detected but when I insert the usb memory stick nothing. It seems that any device that is plugged into the card is not recognised. I’m at a loss. Is there a conflict somewhere? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have a Sony VIAO laptop. The USB is 1.1, but many of the USB 2.0 devices will not work,.

And then you are using a USB 2,0 hub in a USB 1.1 computer and then the memory stick may be USB 1,1 and you may have conflects.

        I have a USB 2 memory stick.

But you are still trying to read it using USB 1.1.

Can the memory stick be read if you use the built in USB slots VS. the card?

What model and OS is the laptop?

The point of the Belkin card is is to enable the portable to have a USB 2 facility. My 2USB 2 memory stick works fine in the standard USB 1.1 connection. What I’m saying is the Belkin card has not been recognised/kicked in when I insert the USB 2 flashdrive . It does, however, appear in the in tray on the bottom of the computer.

A USB adapter will NOT make your computer run as USB 2.0, it will still be 1.1

Most USB 2,0 devices will run one a 1.1 system but at the 1,1 speed. The ONLY way to improve the 1.1 is to replace it a 2.0 interface within the computer.

I was under the impression that the Belkin card was just that. Otherwise, why not buy a hub with an extension for, say. 4 more usb ports? It’s an external usb 2 card. Has anyone else come across the Belkin card?

Hi, these are the details of the card I have installed:
Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Notebook Card

              Part # F5U222uk

A quick installation provides two 480Mbps ports- simply slide the card into your CardBus Card Type II slot. The Card offers Plug-and-Play setup, and works seamlessly with Windows 98SE, 2000, Me, or XP. You can instantly connect next-generation scanners, printers, high speed storage devices, and video cameras. Linking the Card with a Belkin USB 2.0 hub lets you daisy-chain up to as many as 127 USB 1.1 and 2.0 devices to your laptop.

              I found your system spec’s at http://www.vaio-link.com/specifications/sp….asp?l=en&m=545[/url]

It states the you have “2 PCMCIA type I, 2 PCMCIA type II or 1 PCMCIA type III Cards and Cardbus support”

Thanks for that. Thik I’ve tracked the problem down. The card works fine with some USB two sticks and not with others. However, if I plug the power supply into the card it appears to be fine with all. Hmmmm.
