    Greetings,

I use Outlook in a busines setting, and recently I have not been able to create a sub folder under my main INBOX. I am able to create in an archive PST.

Any thoughts on where to begin looking?

    thanks,
    Brad

Is the option to create a subfolder disabled (greyed out), or do you get an error message when you try to create a subfolder – if so what does it say?

        The options show the following:

        Default set to Owner
        My ID, set to owner
nothing is grayed out, and the selections look like this:

        hopefully the image appears…

That’s not what I asked. Please tell us where and how the problem occurs.

While attempting to create a sub folder, I get the “error” message:

Try creating a new e-mail profile in the Mail control panel, and see how it works if you use the new profile.

By the way, your screenshot shows you’re trying to create a subfolder of FILE BY NAME, not of your Inbox. Have you checked whether you have permission to create subfolders there?

            • #1112042

              1) Not sure our IT Police will let us create another profile. I shall try.

              2) I have tried to create from the top level down, and no luck. I have checked the permissions, and they are all set the same.

Looks like I have to include the “IT” folks, yipeeee!

              Thanks,
              Brad

If your IT department has strict rules, it’s best to let them solve this problem.

His IT department lets him have a Soccer folder, surely they must be nice people? evilgrin

(I notice that the FILE BY NAME icon is a default MailItem contents folder.)

Yea, as long as I do not try to change sys stuff…

What do you mean by “(I notice that the FILE BY NAME icon is a default MailItem contents folder.)”

It is a level down from my main inbox.

I am now at the second level of tech support. First level did nothing more than I have already tried. I checked a co-worker, and their permissions only show “default” and it had NONE selected. But they could create subfolders…

              > What do you mean by …

Nothing significant, except that it’s a mail item folder which is not a child of your Inbox. Did you originally create it?

            • #1112187

              Surely did.

Tech support changed a setting for the Use cached exchange mode they un-checked it.

Seems to have solved the issue.

              Thanks,
              Brad
