I can’t access Target.com or Walmart.com.
I have done a reset on Winsock and TCP/IP. Still nothing.
Ideas?
Thanks,
Jim

Both sites are up and while Windows usually does this auto – try putting www. in front of them http://www.target.com http://www.walmart.com
I had a similar problem with sportinglife.com until I started adding the www.
No, no error, browser stays a white screen. I can ping the sites OK.
I only had one add-on running and tried with it disabled. Still can’t access these sites.
During the past few weeks I have been seeing this problem on nearly every customers’ computers I have worked on. Usually the main cause is the current “POODLE” scare. Fixed by turning off SSL3.0 in Internet Options/Advanced.
See Windows Secrets Newsletter Issue 454 2014-10-23 Protecting yourself from POODLE attacks by Susan Bradley.
Have you tried either of these web sites in Safe Mode with Networking ?
If I have any problems (only use IE) I’ll either use MS’s Fixit to reset the Hosts File http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034, clear the SSL state in Tools – Internet options – Content – Clear SSL state or reset IE to defaults.
Because other browsers use aspects of IE the problem could be with IE and checking that a Proxy server hasn’t been enabled is something else to check – Tools – Internet options – Connections – LAN settings and ensure the Proxy server box is unchecked.
Can you get to them using an anoymizer?

I have been having this issue recently and just found this site today. I tried turning off the SSL3 but still can’t access those two sites. But then I clicked on your anonymouse links and I could get to them. I’m not very computer literate, so in English…lol what does that mean and what do you suggest I do so that I can access them regularly without going through your links? Thanks for any help!
Interesting, because yesterday I couldn’t access Safeway.com, and still can’t today. Today I can add Frysfood.com too, this applies to my Win7 Laptop running I.E. 11, my RT tablet running the same. Both sites however appear to be working normally on my WP 8.1….Also tried accessing both sites from my laptop using FF and both were ok…Not good!
Have you tried any of the many suggestions above?
Or would you rather we leave you alone and let you figure it out yourself?
LOL! I came in looking to see if anyone else was having problems. No I haven’t tried any of the suggestions yet. Was looking into the resets when I got your reply…..Will let you all know.
Well, that didn’t take long to fix! I turned off (unchecked) the SSL 3 on my laptop and both sites functioned properly. Next I did the same to my RT tablet with the same results. Thanks Coochin for the heads up on that one, and to everyone else I’ve got all your tips in my reader list in case this pops up again.
Hi,
I tried everything in the suggestions from everyone including resetting the SSL (“Poodle Attack”) and I still can not get onto Target and Walmart…any other suggestions? Help!! TY!
It seems from your previous posts that both IE and Chrome are failing to load webpages. This is often a good indication of malware infections.
Have you run AS/AM scans? E.g.: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Spybot Search and Destroy.
If you’re NOT behind a company firewall, try changing your DNS servers to:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
(here’s a how-to for Windows 7)
and then see if you can get to the regular URLs:
You could try the Anvi Browser Repair Tool but as it will go through the three browsers you have installed, click on the relevant icon in the left pane to disable any fixes you don’t want it to do. http://www.anvisoft.com/browser-repair-tool.html
You could also try re-registering IE by opening an elevated command prompt and enter regsvr32 urlmon.dll
I’d much rather watch the “Top Gun” movie for entertainment (or maybe some other good movie).
I agree with you there.
“People-watching at Walmart”? “Entertaining”? Rather than “entertaining” shouldn’t you have said “depressing”?
 When it literally makes you laugh out loud?
I don’t know, I suppose that is a sign of “depression” for some.
Not for me though … I don’t think.
Two weeks ago, I was at my cousin’s house and wanted to show him some of my sites. None of them would connect!! I panicked thinking something was wrong with my income generating sites. Then, my non-tech cousin said that they couldn’t connect to many sites when they actually entered the IP address. I realized that their computer, not my sites was causing the problem. It turns out, they had a corrupted DNS cache. I followed these instructions and presto, everything works and I’m a hero.
Here is how to fix that corrupted DNS cache.
1. Click the Microsoft Start logo in the bottom left corner of the screen
2. Click All Programs
3. Click Accessories
4. RIGHT-click on Command Prompt
5. Select Run As Administrator
6. In the command window type the following and then hit enter: ipconfig /flushdns
7. You will see the following confirmation:
Windows IP Configuration Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.
Reboot just to make sure, then try to connect to the sites again.
Try this:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
[*]Reset IE back to its original defaults by clicking Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Reset… button. Select “Delete personal settings”, click the Reset button and then close IE.
[*]Restart IE and then see if you can get to the regular URLs:
http://www.target.com
http://www.walmart.com
If still the same problem, what about after booting up in Safe mode with Networking?
Having the same problem: Cannot connect to Walmart or Target. Sometimes I get a white screen, sometimes a 404 error. Happens in FireFox, IE and Chrome.
Tried changing to a free DNS server–did not work. And the tech guy at my ISP said to leave the setting on “automatic”.
Tried ipconfig /flushdns at the command prompt.
Tried putting www in front
Ran the clean-up programs recommended by Major Geeks in an old, closed thread.
Tried “Allow all first party cookies”
Tried setting my security level to the weakest setting.
Tried clicking through a link in google search,
Ran Malwarebytes, AVG, AdAware, SpyBot (maybe a couple others)
Tried turning off SSL3.0 and now can get the Target weekly ad if I click through a google link but still no Target or Walmart.
Tried clicking the links in Post #10 (using anonymous) and that DOES work
Best advice so far was “don’t shop at Walmart or Target” but I’d still like to have my computer work right.
Help!
Selecting “Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically”, followed by a restart, worked for a bunch of people with the Target/Walmart conundrum nearly seven years ago:

Did that (see post 14). btw–your link did not work for me but I was able to google that thread.
Can you get to http://161.170.244.20?
It seems likely to me that at least some of the posters in this thread who are having problems with certain websites might need to look at their “Restricted Sites” list at Control PanelInternet OptionsSecurity
Look through the list for any sites you are having trouble with, click on the site then click the “Remove” button to stop blocking that site.
Caution: most, if not all, of the sites listed are known-unsafe (probably added by security software you have installed, e.g.: Spybot Search and Destroy).
Can you get to http://161.170.244.20?
Yes!
If you can get to Walmart by directly using their IP address of 161.170.244.20, but cannnot get there by using their walmart.com domain name, it can be a DNS server problem.
A DNS server is kind of like the old telephone whitepages phone book. Since it’s easier for humans to remember someone’s name than their telephone number, the phone book has everyone listed alphabetically by name so you look up them up and then their phone number is listed to the right of their name.
Same with a DNS server. It has a list of all the domain names with their unique corresponding IP address. When your computer browser asks for say walmart.com your DNS server should immediately respond with 161.170.244.20. If it doesn’t, your broser canniot get to walmart.com.
