    Hello!

I have tried to install two different “apps” that are not from the MS store – the Kindle app and the free version of 0Patch, and in both cases, I get a dialog box that warns that the app is not from the MS Store, but when I click “install anyway” nothing happens.

I have tried to check the MS Store app settings, but can’t find any way to change settings to allow the app to be installed.

    I get the following:

    Store

No way to click on “install anyway” – and it can’t be installed.

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks.

    LH

Are you using Windows 10S? The S Edition is limited to App Store Apps.

But, if the hardware specs allow (is sufficient to run efficiently), you can do a one time upgrade (not reversable, I believe) to a full version of Windows.

      Hi PKCano! No – I have Win 10 Pro V 22H2 – it’s a Thinkpad L13 – plenty of memory for this I think.

Something is wrong in the app settings I think, but can’t figure out what or how to fix it. I don’t usually get anything from the MS Store and probably changed a setting when I first got this laptop – and really haven’t tried to install any apps – but seems that it should allow something like the Kindle app – or this 0Patch app without any issues.

I’ll keep trying to figure it out – thanks!

      Hi,

Does this happen on all apps?

If so you take a look at this setting.

“Open Settings > Apps > Apps & Features and set the option to “Allow apps from anywhere”

Great – thanks so much! That was it! I had it set to “anywhere but warn me…” and that seemed to have blocked the app from being installed. Once I change it to “anywhere but let me know if there is a comparable app…” it worked.

Those are the only settings there are except for MS Store only, which I don’t want.

Thanks for the help! Hope it continues to work.
