I was doing updates on my girlfriends computer this morning and she has chrome as default browser. I went to update CCleaner and when it goes to the File-Hippo page to D/L, chrome pops up a red page warning that File-hippo may install programs along with the program I want to D/L.
I went back to the Piriform page and used their D/L link to get the latest edition.
Evidently File-hippo is earning a reputation which isn’t good. I never had that happen before.

      Better than CNet’s.

Majorgeeks would be my first port of call should the maker of the software not have their own site, if they don’t have it, Softpedia. From there on down, who knows what might be added.

      Thanks for the reminder, lumpy95.

Have a look at Beware: FileHippo Now Pushing Adware (from last August) for apparent confirmation.

      Hope this helps…

CCleaner auto checks for newer versions and when you go to the Piriform page it has the D/L button at bottom of the free version. When you click that, it takes you straight over to File-Hippo ( it’s been that way for some time now ).
When I got the ( File-Hippo ) Red page from chrome, I just went back to the Piriform page and used the D/L link at the top of the page to get it straight from Piriform. I hadn’t realized that you could download it from there anymore. Maybe this will help anyone else that uses CCleaner.

Rick Corbett – thanks for alerting me to the malfeasant behaviour of FileHippo, which I use quite regularly. Their AppManager is the best that I have found for taking updates, but it seems to a well-disguised choice between infected and infection-free links to download.

      You can’t be too careful.
