I have an Gateway computer that uses Windows ME after upgrade from Windows 95 and was purchased in 1998. Over the last few weeks it will boot the first time that I push the start button some of the time and the next time it requires several tries to get the computer to boot. If I hold the start button in for several minutes, the computer will just stopand not start. The only way to get the computer started is to push the start button and watch the blinking light on the monitor and when it stops blinking, let go of the start button. Once the computer is running, it works great. What should I look at to correct this problem? I get no error message. Thanks for any help. Gerry

This sounds like a hardware problem. I would contact Gateway or a local computer shop about replacing the Power switch on the machine.

I have contacted Gateway about this problem and they say to remove all ot the cards in the computer and replace them to see if this would correct the problem. Gateway states that my problem may be caused by a loosed memory or video card. They do not have a part number for the correct power switch. Still working the problem.
