Conditional Format to mutli cells? (Excel ’97)

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to set a conditional format to lines of cells rather than just one particular one, dependant on the value displayed in one of them, i.e. if If the cell value in C10 is blank (“”), format B10-D10 with no fill colour, otherwise colour it green.

Attached is a trimmed-down example of what I’ve got. Do I really have to paddle in the ‘Fountain of VBA’ just for this??

Hi,

When applying th econditional formatting you should specify using Formula rather that Cell Value. There is a dropdown selector on the conditional format dialog which alows you to choose.

Using Formul is together with the expresion =$C$10=”” should work. I attach a copy of your workbook whwre I have applied this to format the background as green when C10=””.

– was about to respond, but Andrew beat me to it. To apply the conditional formatting to multiple rows, I think you need to lose the $ sign in front of the row number in Andrew’s example. I was going to suggest
=LEN($C4)>0 as the formula applied to columns B, C, and D for multple rows to trigger the green background.

Thanks guys, that’s the ticket. Seems so easy now that I’m chuckling.

Had a problem with things not working but that was due to manually-applied fills taking precedence over the cond. fmt.
