On Excel 2007, is there a pre-built function that will convert an entire column of degrees Fahrenheit to Celsius? With over 1000 data points I’d prefer not to do this 1 x 1 if I don’t have to.
    Thanks

      The CONVERT function example: =CONVERT(A1,”F”,”C”)

        The CONVERT function example: =CONVERT(A1,”F”,”C”)

Thanks. I had seen that but it doesn’t seem to allow converting more than a single cell at a time. I’m sure I’m missing something though. Is there a way to use CONVERT on a range of cells (in this case, a full column)?

Select an empty column – in the formula bar type =CONVERT(A1,”F”,”C”), then hit Control + Enter. This will set the formula for every cell in the column.

If you want to replace the values in the original column, select the column you have just populated, copy it to the clipboard and Paste Special | Values over the original column.

If you have a column of farenheit figures – enter the formula in the next column and copy the formula down.

I’m not sure exactly what you mean by “copy the formula down.” What I’ve done is to copy the formula, paste it into the next row down, and manually replace the number cell information. For example, delete “B3” and type in “B4.” Is that what you mean?

        Thanks, sorry for being thick.

Select Cell B3, the bottom right corner is a black box. When your mouse goes over it, the cursor changes from a large white cross to a thin black cross.
While it’s a black cross, click and (holding the button down) drag downwards for several cells. Release. The formula will fill all the cells you have selected.

That’s what’s called ‘copying the formula down’,

Thanks – my Excel skills (never great) have gotten very rusty.
