Copy one data to multiple columns (2003)

Is any shortcut to paste one data to multiple columns in table? I highlight the columns that I want to paste, and then click “CTRL + V”. It only paste to one columns even I select ten columns.

Access is not a spreadsheet, so you can’t easily do what you describe. Furthermore, it sounds like the design of the table is not normalized or you would not be attempting to multiple columns of data. Could you explain in more detail what you are trying to accomplish?

Hi Charlotte,

I am import a text format file to access table, then I need add one field in the table. However there are the data of this field are the same, that’s why I am tring to find a shortcut to paste the same data to whole column instead of paste one by one.

Any suggestions, I really need add the data to this field in order for me to run the report. It will be really help if you can help me with some shortcut because there are around 75,000 columns in this field.

If you want to set the values of one field to the values of another field, you can use an update query. Let’s say that you want to set the values of FieldA to those of FieldB.
– Create a new query based on the table.
– Add FieldA to the query grid.
– Select Query | Update Query. This adds a row labeled ‘Update to’.
– Enter [FieldB] in the ‘Update to’ row under FieldA.
– Repeat for other fields if necessary
– Select Query | Run to execute the query.

But I need add new values to a new field, the values are not come from any exit field.

You can also enter a constant value in the ‘Update to’ row.

If the values don’t come from another field, and aren’t constant either, you’ll have to explain what exactly you want.
