Custom Function for Pivot Table (2000)

Excel can do a median function, but apparently it is not available in a Pivot Table. Does anyone know a method for getting a Pivot Table to calculate a Median with the data?

You can insert functions by right-clicking the pivot table, then choosing Functions, then Calculated Field. You write your formula while double-clicking the Fields where you want them inserted. [This is a great way to add percentages if you need to add them to a table.]

For Median, just type in the Median formula (like you would in a cell) only using the field instead of a range, so if you wanted a Median of a bunch of scores and the field name is Scores, then it would look like =Median(Scores).

This seems to do a median function on each cell involved in the field, then sum them anyway for each cell in the pivot table. The pivot tables have only the limited functions for display the data for each intersection, and the calculated function seems to just be performing the calculations on each of the values in the corresponding field prior to the pivot table function summarizing the results. This would work for some functions, but not for a median. The median of 1 number is itself, and summed would then be the same as the sum without the median. Any other ideas on this?

Sorry, I didn’t think of that. Is there a reason it has to be in a pivot table?
