• Dates instead of Numbers (Access 97)

This is a stumper for us. On another list one of the members is using Access 97 and has a field that is intended for numbers. But whenever he enters data it tries to change the number into a date. He says that he has checked all of the formating, data type, he is not entering data into a form that is somehow changing the data. He has downloaded and installed SR-2 for Access 97. Still no positive results.

It seems to me that a few years back I was having something similar and someone here told me to check some .dll files or something.

    Any ideas.

    TIA

    Bret

There are several things that could be causing that sort of behavior. One is as you suggest, some sort of corruption of his Access installation. Another is corruption of his Access database – a compact and repair should catch that. Another is a format being applied to the table – dates are essentailly Double fields with special formatting. If none of these possibilities apply, then they could try attaching a cut-down version of their database and let someone else look at it.

        Thanks Wendell,

Compact and repair is one that I don’t often think about and I should. I’ll pass this along.

        Thanks again,
