default text wrap for graphics (XP)

Is there any way (perhaps with some cool registry hack?) to make the default for graphics I insert to be floating rather than inline?

I’ve heard that it is possible to change the default in Word2002: Tools > Options, Edit tab.

I probably wouldn’t have looked there, either: It’s a new option in Word2002.

For those who don’t have Word 2002 (I have Word 2000), I just create a text box and then insert the graphic in that box. That way I can position the graphic anywhere I want it by dragging the text box to where I want it. Make sure you make the background of the box invisible as well as the line surrounding the box. If you don’t make the background invisible, then you might block out some close lying text that already exists in the document with the text box. You can do that on your drawing tool bar (Fill and Line tools).
