I’m after any idea’s on a design issue concerning command buttons.

In my project, I use 4 command buttons to scroll through a series of images on a form.
There’s nothing wrong with them programatically and they work just fine.
My issue is that they just look drab and unprofessional.

I’m revamping the look of my application and just wondered if anyone has any idea’s in this matter.
Below you will see a PNG of the buttons.

If there is an alternative way to scroll the images, I’m open to all idea’s.

One man’s meat is another man’s poison Dave, especially in the design of forms. If you ask 5 programmers to design an interface you’ll usually get 6 solutions.

Personnaly I think the buttons look fine and if the functionality is what the user is comfortable with then who cares.

You could use a scroll bar to allow the user to scroll through them by dragging it or clicking on the arrows. I’ve also seen a sort of thumbwheel control, but don’t ask me where, you can move around that would do the same thing.

The one thing I will say is that I have found that users appreciate consitancy. We use .NET here now and the ability to design a form and then inherit from it makes the look and feel aspects of system design a lot easier.

You can search the web for alternative images for your buttons; there must be thousands of “arrow” buttons available.

Instead of 4 command buttons, you could use a single scroll bar; you can set its Min and Max properties each time you load a set of images, and use its On Change event to scroll through the images.

Why not have a go at rolling your own? The ware Buttonz & Tilez might be a good starting point.

Soem people will also say that 16 * 15 is ok as well
