A newbie friend using a brand new Win7 OS was naively attempting to ‘copy and paste’ a DVD to their hard drive.
After some considerable time they terminated the long unfinished process.
As a result the DVD reader/burner no longer recognises any type of inserted disc.
Opening device manager showed the DVD drive with a warning icon and a “not working properly” message.
Taking steps to uninstall and reinstall the drive through the ‘Device Manager’ with appropriate in between reboots shows the warning icon is gone and “This device is working properly” message.
When any sort of disc is inserted in the drive, it spins up as if reading and then rests as is usual, but then clicking on the device in ‘My Computer’ to play or show the disc contents causes tray ejection and a popup asking for a disc to be inserted in the drive.
Disconnection and reconnection of the device cables with reboots to initiate successful recognition and installation of “new device found” makes no difference.
How can I reset the DVD drive to see and read an inserted disc?
Any assistance will be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
TerryS.
