I’ve just noticed this folder in my user profile on my Win 10 Pro 1809 laptop:

I checked other Win 10 installs (1709, 1803) and this is the only one which includes this folder. It’s interesting because I don’t use Edge… except on this one occasion when I had Edge’s ‘first run’ browser speed comparison page open. I forgot Edge was open… so it’s been open on that first initial page for days now.
I have no idea what happened at 6:24 am this morning that prompted Edge into a flurry of action creating an unwanted backup within ‘my’ profile folder. I certainly wasn’t asked if I wanted Edge to create a backup nor informed what data was going to be stored in the backup…

I had a look around and came across this security blog which implies the MS Edge development team have no idea what it’s doing.
I just deleted the whole Edge backup folder from my profile as a test… it wasn’t protected at all.
