Have enclosed a spreadsheet to see if problem occurs elsewhere.

Highlight the word Mode on the chart and then delete it. Click in any cell outside the chart. What happens here on 4 different machines is that Excel closes down.
Just wondering if it happens elsewhere. If not, what could possibly be happening on our machines.

Have saved the file to a network drive and the local drive. Problem occurs no matter the file is opened from. Have also run Detect and Repair in Excel to see if the problem would correct itself. Problem continues.

    Thanks.

No problem on my PC. I’m using Excel 2002 SP-3.

What happens if you do the following:
      – Click in any of the columns, this should select Series 1.
      – Select Format | Selected series…
      – Activate the Data labels tab.
      – Tick one of the check boxes (e.g. series name).
      – Click OK.
      – Select Format | Selected series… again.
      – Clear the check box you just ticked.
      – Click OK.
      – The labels should disappear, including the original one.
      – Save the workbook (under another name if you wish).
      – Click outside the chart.

I am using the same version of Excel as you.

Followed your suggestion. When i clicked outside the chart after all labels had gone, I did not get kicked out of Excel.
