I have run into a peculair error message for a database that has been in current use for over a year. The database requires a logon password for the database itself (not for each individual user). This database has been in use for over a year without this issue happening before today. Last Friday I moved the total records counter up from 1000 to 10000 (in Tools, Options, Edit/Find) because of an issues associates with the number of records viewable when using the Filter By Form function. After making the change to 10000 the database (on my end) worked as it should. I probably opened this database at least 15 times on Saturday alone to make sure everything worked properly. After sending the database back to the client they received the attached error message, just after entering the database password. After notifying me of such, I opened the same database, on a different PC then the one used to make the changes, and it opens for me fine. I even had another person who works in my office open the database without any problems.

I tried to find some information on the Microsoft Knowledge website, as well as searched the archives here in Woody’s Lounge, but could not find anything which related to it. I might had that had the user set the counter back to 5000, then 2000, then 1000, yet the error message remains. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Have you checked for MISSING references on client’s computer

No. Since it worked before on the same PC’s I’m not sure how changing the viewable records from 1000 to 10000 would affect the references. But to be on the safe side I will ask them to check. I guess the question is how would I know which one may not be installed? In the past when I’ve run into reference problems the error message indicated which “reference” was not loaded.

You will know which reference is missing by the word MISSING showing up when you select Tools|Reference… when you have a code window active.

Missing references can cause all sorts of weird errors. Things like the Left$() function not working eventhough it’s builtin function.

Well when all else fails, generate a new database. Which is what I did to correct the problem. Imported all objects and data and it works great. Ahhhh those problems which creep into Access and can never be fixed………

That’s OK, I’ve also had things creep into Excel spreadsheets and Word docs that could only be fixed with the equivalent method. Access just does it more often because of the nature of the beast. grin

Haven’t we ALL had those things creep in and make us say “What the censored !?!?!?!” smile
