Hello! I’m on my 3rd Windows install on this PC build and want to keep it as clean as possible. Besides, on shutdown I get the “Waiting for Background Program to Close” for a fraction of a second- with nothing listed between the horizontal lines. I figured I would start by fixing the causes of errors and warnings in the event logs. I’ve had some success, but am stumped on this one.

“The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
    ASMTFilter
    Log Name: System
    Source: Service Control Manager
    Event ID: 7026”

It seems as though it’s related to a USB driver- possible ASUS or Logitech. What’s the best way to track this down? If I don’t need it I’d like to keep it from trying to start. I really would appreciate the help.

Would running HijackThis be of any value?

Once upon a time I had a really fancy startup manager on my PC. I forget who published it. Does anything come tom mint out there?

More information. I found this in a Google search:

ASMFUD-Win32 – 107x Upper Filter Driver SYS Files
      FILENAME DEVELOPER SOFTWARE VERSION
      1. asmtufdriver.sys
      Asmedia Technology
      ASMFUD-Win32 – 107x Upper Filter Driver

And in these keys in the PC’s registry:

Try this on the Event ID problem.

      Why a 3rd install?

CLiNT, Thanks! I will run the Fix It in the morning and report back

Third install is a looooong story. I built the PC a year ago and didn’t put it into service until last February because it was strange. It’s performance deteriorated so much it would not even run a Windows Repair (“Update”) as detailed by Fred Langa in Secrets 2011-07-14.

So I did a clean install of Windows but neglected to do a secure erase of the boot SSD. Did the secure erase and now I’m training the PC to be my main confuser.

I have a list of parts for a 4790K/Z97 in case this one hiccups again.

I ran the “Fix it” but the same error shows up after I restart the PC. Do you know of another approach I can take?

Check out Autoruns to see and manage what starts when you boot.
