    Can anyone explain the functionality of add-in (in Excel) for Access Links?

      Are you talking about Access Links in Excel 2000? What it does is allow Excel to create use Access as an automation server and to create an Access database with the Excel spreadsheet linked into it as a datasource. You wind up with an Access database and Access forms and reports, but the “tables” are actually links to the Excel spreadsheet or sheets.

      I don’t recall and I no longer have Excel 97 installed.
