Using Excel and Access both 2002.
I need to populate Access table with Excel data from a spreadheet.
When I go Import-Choose Excel type file and select which file to Import from – in 30 sec my Access is crushing.
Excel is a 81KB file, nothing weird or special. Access 30,448KB.

I will have to get data from Excel every pay period and put it into Access table to produce Report.
Is there other way? Any sugestion appreciated.
    Thanks

can you post the excel file after removing sensitive data or scrambling it. I” will be happy to try it by me, to see if the problem is in the excel file

Thanks, I am thrilled to do this. I hope I am attaching it right.

Try saving the Excel file into a comma-delimited or another format and then importing. I’ve had to do this numerous times with files from different sources. Perhaps there was something unseen in the Excel versions that would make Access lock up.

This is what I got, the import went fine. Attached is the database that I imported into. The only question it asked was that some field names were not valid in access so it changed them

          • #920184

OK, what would be my solution? Names changing or…where do I go from here? Thanks

            • #920194

that is not the real problem because the import wizard fixes that. Try creating a new blank access database and importing into there, then see what happens

            • #920197

              Oh, thanks.

            • #920231

OK, I’ve tried with Access97 and I’ve got the message that ‘External data is not in expected format.
What is exeptable format for Excel file to be exported into Access? I could try to bring it to a right format.
              Thanks

Your spreadsheet imports almost instantaneously for me (after the same message Zave mentioned, caused by cells AB1 and AC1 being empty). There is a problem in the spreadsheet – cells M2 and U137:U598 contain an #REF error, but that doesn’t prevent it from being imported into Access.

Is the excel in a format later than office 97 that access 97 does not understand? I do no think that the excel format changed that much, but I am not sure

            • #920338

The Excel data file format has not changed since Excel 97. Excel 97, 2000, 2002 and 2003 can read workbooks created in either of these versions.

            • #920738

I’ve never solved it yet. So if anything comes up – please, let me know. Thanks to all

            • #920769

This is hard for us to solve. As you can read in this thread, both Zave and I can import the Excel file you attached into Access without serious problems, so the Excel workbook itself doesn’t seem to be the culprit.
Have you tried importing the Excel workbook into a blank new database? If so, do you have the same problems?

Added later: as Zave pointed out, you already tried importing your workbook into a new database. Can you import any Excel spreadsheet at all? Try with a spreadsheet containing a very simple table – only two or three columns and two or three rows.

It looks like he tried that in post 441791 , so I am really confused. But if Hans is stuck- then it is serious grin

It looks like with this post I made 4 Start (it just shows how you can go so far knowing so little!)

I am sorry my job is throwing me everywhere so I never tried that solution for Excel to Access yet.

              I’ve tried and it crashed.
Should I be yelling to reinstall my Access?
As far as I know there is a lady next to me who CAN import Excel into Acess. Does this mean it is corrupted on my PC?
I’ve tried another one of my team-mate and it crashed.

            • #921060

It certainly seems to indicate some kind of corruption in your Access installation, since Zave and I could import without problems, and at least one of your colleagues too. I don’t know if you can use Help | Detect and Repair in your environment; if so, that’s worth a try before calling for a complete reinstall.
