I have a new win 8.1 machine, I am the only user and have administrator privileges.
I noticed that many of my program (non windows) folders have attribute button set as read only, even if I manually change it. does not hold hold.
So some of my files can’t be edited. very strange
I have full control but not all users and there is only me have full control. something seems wrong
    Any thoughts
    JK

The read only attribute on folders does not mean read only. The read only attribute on a folder on means the folder has been customized. See You cannot view or change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, in Windows Vista or in Windows 7. It applies to Windows 8/8.1 too.

Where are the files located which you can not edit?
How were they created on the PC? Were they copied from an external drive?

They are located in 2 directories on the c drive.
1 directory was a fresh install and then a copy over from the old computer c drive
      2. other directory files were copied from the old computer c drive. copy and paste.
      Thx

Are the folders among the protected folders? Program Files, Program Files (x86), Windows.
Are the files marked as read only?
Even thought the account names on the PCs may be the same the internal code used for the accounts will be different. Therefore, most likely the user-id on the new pc is not the owner of the files. You may need to take ownership of the files. See Take Ownership Of Files And Folders In Windows 8[/url].
