• Font does not print with shadows

We have a home-made certificate of achievement built in PowerPoint 2007. The designer used the OldCentury font and ticked the shadowed button. The shadows appear in normal view, but they disappear in print preview and do not appear when we print the certificate on paper.

My hunch: It’s got something to do with the printer, but I’m clueless beyond that. The printer: Dell Color Laser 5110cn. Any ideas?

I know that the behavior of shadows can be profoundly different depending upon whether you selected the text placeholder before issuing the shadow command or selected the text itself by dragging across all of the letters. Do you know which you did? Also, do you have Adobe Acrobat? If so, try printing to a PDF file and inspecting the results there. If they show up there, you might have success simply by using it as an intermediary: print to a PDF file and then go from Acrobat to your printer.

Let us know if either of these tactics make a difference…

Well, hurrah! The certificate prints as intended when converted (“published”) as a PDF. I can’t answer your question about how the author applied the shadow. Suffice to say we have a winner. Thanks for the tip!
