Font not rendering correctly

My 82 year old brother uses Dragon Naturally Speaking in MS Word and has encountered an intriguing problem. In a DNS created document, for no apparent reason, the Times New Roman font he was using changed in size from (what appears to be) a legitimate size 12 to what is shown in the document as size 16. However, the text in size 16 is actually smaller than what is in size 12. If we select the text in size 16 and try to change it to 12 it becomes even smaller! We are simply unable to change/reformat that text. I have no idea what is going on and, if anyone can shed any light on what might be happening, we would certainly appreciate it!

Does the problem exist with other Fonts or only in that one?

Thanks for the reply! I can add text to the end of the document with about any other font I choose.

Are you sure this isn’t just a case of the document zoom setting being something other than 100%? At 125% zoom, for example, a 12pt font would look like a 16pt font at 100%.

Thanks for the reply! Would not appear to have anything to do with zoom. The supposed 16pt text actually appears to be much smaller in the document and in printouts than the 12pt text.

Don’t see the version of Windows in use but nearly all Windows-based programs beginning with Windows 95 [1995] have use the Fonts installed in Windows [Control Panel, Fonts]. Since other Fonts seem to be okay I’d be looking for a replacement copy either from another like-computer or from the Internet. I’d delete the one in the Fonts Folder then Install the replacement.

Check the font settings to verify that the text is not set to superscript or subscript. This might be the cause of your issue.

Try selecting the text and pressing Ctrl-Q and Ctrl-Space to remove any local formatting.
