Forms – locking and unlocking (Word03)

I have a form with text and check boxes. The Protect Form button is grayed out on the Form toolbar when I use my desktop unit at work. I accessed the form last night, via the web, from home and I could lock the document. But the Protect Form button is grayed out. How can I resolve this issue. I tried going Tools | Protect Document | restricted editing to filling in forms. That didn’t work. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Fay

Does the document contain text boxes and check boxes from the Forms toolbar or from the Control Toolbox? Protecting a document for forms is only relevant for items from the Forms toolbar.

I think we’d have to see the document to know what is going on. Could you attach a copy of the document? You can strip out all non-relevant text, and remove sensitive information (or replace it with dummy info).

Here is the form. I am currently working with it on my laptop and it works. But the desktop doesn’t give me access to the protect button. Thanks for looking at it.

Could it be that the document is opened in Design Mode on your desktop? The lock button and the Tools | Protect Document menu item are disabled as long as you’re in design mode. To find out, activate the Control Toolbox and check whether the Design Mode button is on (down). If so, try turning it off.

I will check tomorrow I am off site the rest of today. It is a possibility because the Control Toolbox has been on screen. Thanks. Fay
