My web host can’t seem to help me on email send issues. I receive email just fine.
I thought I might learn SMTP protocol and figure out what the problem is.
I have to send on (and have been set up to send on) port 26, since ATT blocks port 25. No problem before this week. Problem exists (now) on all my computers, 3 IPs, and mobile devices (which, I guess, have their own IPs when connected to cell towers or wifi out & about). The problem exists on Thunderbird, OE Classic 2.1, Outlook (2010?, maybe 2007), iPhone, iPad, & Android phone.
Yes, I’ve tried with and without anti-virus, with and without firewall, all sorts of password authentication standards, and standard ports as well as my non-standard one. Web Host tech support confirms my username, password, and two receive configurations — POP and IMAP.
Anybody out there have any thoughts based on available info below? (possible problem/solution, where to go to study the protocol so I might identify possible problem/solution, etc.? [identifying data -web pages, IP, were edited for privacy.] ) Solution may be to nuke web page and related services, and rebuild from clean.
I get this:
[ERROR] – An error occurred. Account: “mywebpage.com”, Protocol: “SMTP”, Task: SMTP send all messages, Server: “trinity.mywebhost.net”, Port: 26, SSL/TLS: No (1.0), Error code: 0, Error message: “authentication failed”, Last server response: “” For more details look in “Log” tab – error messages are marked in red color.
[Color didn’t transfer. Basically, “535. 5.7.0” lines and “An error occurred. – authentication failed”]
