I’m looking for a way to get the row number location for a text string that is located within a column range. The column range also includes numbers, and blank cells. I don’t think there are any duplicate text entries in the range.

Are you searching for a specific string? If so, you can use the MATCH function. For example, if you’re looking for “Search String” in column C, the following formula will return the row number:

      =MATCH(“Search String”,C:C,0)

        Hans,

        It did the trick.

        Thanks once again!

BTW, I didn’t know that you could refer to a column as “C:C”… I learned two things!

Similarly, you can refer to an entire row as (for example) 37:37.

It’s also possible to refer to multiple columns: C:E and to multiple rows: 13:18.
