It’s too early to tell how this is going to turn out, but MS has committed to freezing Technet and the MSDN network, and replacing them with the lates

They need to get rid of the brownie points / reputation flagging.

The end result of such schemes on the technet forums was point-seeking dimwits copy-paste spamming the same inaccurate unhelpful garbage all over the forums.

I always found better answers on TechNet then the more public forums. Most of which are staffed by people who pride themselves on not reading the question and giving canned answers which many times the questioner has already said they tried.

Yes the canned answers and assistance more like a magic 8 ball than trying to help the end users bisect their issues. TechNet back when MS had a fully staffed QA/QC department was more helpful than any public forum focused Q/A.

Technet has always been a valuable resource.

Answers is such an oxymoron that I add -site:answers.microsoft.com when doing tech searches. Microsoft employees on their lunch break routinely providing canned answers telling someone to do something they already said they did in their question, and then somehow getting to mark their answer as the solution.  It’s like searching life questions online:  You exclude the Quora and Yahoo! Answers garbage because its useless.

Microsoft should have an end-user space and a tech user space, and a developer space, and keep them separate, never the twain should meet. And in truth, their Level I people shouldn’t be allowed to answer their tech or dev userspace questions; it’s really that bad. AnswerDesk Level I phone support from Microsoft isn’t any better; I  debate chewing my fingers off so I can’t dial the numbers.

(yes, I’m a curmudgeon, but only through real life experience)

Happily retired now, when I see “Technet” I think back 15 years or so when I had a subscription and got a fancy zipper pouch and CDs in the mail each month. As a scientist manager of an IT effort focused on meeting the needs of scientists and their computer endpoints numbering about 10% out of the total IT enterprise we co-existed in it was with those CDs and later downloads holding all of MS’s operating systems and software that I taught myself what my team and I needed to know. How to tell when the enterprise IT people were blowing smoke, which was often and also most important how to enable the mission to get done. Now with such Technet subscriptions gone and with Windows 10 and the Azure cloud, the Windows OS no longer a stable platform to control data acquisition from bench top lab instruments it is just as well the word “Technet” be banished along with MSDN and anything else recalling a more sane time. Good to be retired and out of it. good to remove things that bring back memories of what is no longer and can never be again. I want nothing to associate the current MS with a solution because it isn’t.

As a consumer, the only thing I might need help with is Universal Windows Platform… NOT! Quoting from M$ Q&A (emphasis added):

Universal Windows Platform (UWP) is a common development platform for all device families running Windows 10. UWP device families include desktop PCs, Xbox, HoloLens, IoT, etc. This tag should be used for questions regarding general UWP development on any of the supported device families. Note: Device family specific questions (such as Mixed Reality development, Xbox XDK development, etc.) should be directed toward the appropriate Microsoft community.

No help for individual UWP apps. Everything else is Azure-related or is ‘Partner Center API’… The Heck With It! I’ll keep getting my primary support from AskWoody & other sources… if I’m desperate, support.microsoft.com.

Bought a refurbished Windows 10 64-bit, currently updated to 22H2. Have broke the AC adapter cord going to the 8.1 machine, but before that, coaxed it into charging. Need to buy new adapter if wish to continue using it.

I must admit that I’m worried. From the days of – let’s face it – GREAT technical documentation in the past (often from MS software authors) to what now appears to be some sort of curtains in front of the content).

Shades of ‘Ye shall not pass!’ unless you have the correct evocations.

IMO it does not auger well.
