• group by count in a query

In report it is simple to create a group by count in the detail section of the report. However I need to do the same thing in a query. My query is structured as a sorted id number and a sorted test date, and a test score. I would like to create a calculated variable that would create a 1 for the first id number and the first id date, then a two for a the second test date etc. then goes back to one when a new id number changes.

Why would you want to do that in a query?

to use in a pivot formula test1 , test 2 test 3 etc, or to chart average values of test 1, test 2 test 3 etc.

I don’t think it can be done in a query. I would tend to build a temporary table and populate/massage that.
