Guide: What is Super Duper Secure Mode in Microsoft Edge and how to enable it

Back in August, Microsoft Edge’s Vulnerability Research Lead Jonathan Norman revealed that his team is working on a “Super Duper Secure Mode” – that I’ll mostly refer to as “SDSM” following this instance for brevity – for Microsoft Edge. With the release of Edge 96.0.1054.29 to the Stable channel, this feature has been quietly added to the browser and is now available for the general public to enable…

That does not work in Windows 10 21H2. I set it and it flips itself around between “balanced” and “strict” as soon I close the browser and reopen it. Plus, it seems (why I have no idea) when turned on to to try and destroy my setting in the registry for a much fatter vertical scroll bar. Instead, it insists on the most narrow scroll bar I have ever seen (can barely see it) which I cannot tolerate.

Microsoft must have done this half baked. Neowin makes some bleak predictions around this and this sort of thing is just pushing me closer to leaving Windows next year and getting an Apple desktop computer to go with my iPhone and Apple Watch.

Good thing I avoid Edge and use it only when absolutely necessary.

Susan Bradley’s 29-Nov-2021 Computerworld article How to Get More Out of Edge (and Bolster Its Security) states in part:

… “Click on Balanced, which adds security protection for sites you don’t visit often. You can even go one more level and click on Strict, which boosts security for all sites. (If you have issues with any site, you can click on Exceptions and add websites you want to exclude from this setting.)…”

If I select Balanced mode, how does SDSM know which sites I frequently visit if I clear my entire browsing history each time I exit my MS Edge browser (Privacy, Search and Services | Clear Browsing Data | Choose What to Clear Every Time You Close The Browser), including “Browsing History” and “Cookies and Other Site Data”?
