Shout me down if you will, but…

As a huge fan of Woody everything, I of course subscribe to all relevant Watches. However, I loath HTML email (if for no other reason than when I accidentally click on a message offline, my finger gets sore clicking the cancel button on the dial up networking window). I have a recurrent problem with WAW that I have emailed the various help emails several times, but never received a reply.

I have tried to subscribe to WAW text numerous times, and each time I can receive the HTML version, but each time I change to the text version it stops arriving, despite having received the correct subscribe and unsubscribe methods, and receiving WOW and WOW-Tips regularly in text version. An attempt to resubscribe to the text version prompts the reply that I am already subscribed, but still it doesn’t arrive.

Can anyone here help or even point me in the direction of an answer, as I have had no success in numerous attempts at going through the “proper channels”?

Good luck. I tried for 6 months to get signed up for the text version of WWW and finally gave up. I did manage to somehow get signed up for the text version of WOW (I think Eileen straightened that one out when she was working on that). I currently don’t receive WWW because I was never able to get signed up.

I’ll bring this to Claude’s attention and see if he can get you both fixed up.

AFAIK, WWW is the only ezine which comes out in both text and html. (I receive both of them,
although the text version generally takes a few days after the html version appears)

          You can switch over at

          http://woodyswatch.com/windows/changesubscribe.asp .

The alternative for those readers who have HTML mail problems is to look
at the archives at http://woodyswatch.com/windows/archives.asp or
          http://woodyswatch.com/access/archives.asp

Now I’m really confused!! I thought that WWW was the only one that did not have a text version equivalent, which is why I get the html version. This version has no link for converting to text. WOW and WOW-Tips (ex WOWMM) both come as text only, according to my subscription notices, and WAW purports to come as text and html, but I’ve seen no evidence of the former.

The plot thickens – my subscribe note (12/2000) for WWW says it’s only available in html, and there’s no link in WWW html to change, but having visited the changesubscribe page, it’s listed as both!! Well, I’ve changed again here and we’ll see what happens.

I know the archives are available, but for us poor people stuck with (not very reliable) dial up access, where email is the most reliable, and certainly the quickest and cheapest, way to get anything from outside the country, they’re not a desirable alternative.

Well, that is interesting since I have been receiving a text only version of WOW for years. I started trying to sign up for the text only version of WWW the day it first became available, but the only thing I ever accomplished was to get two copies of the HTML version. Since my only option at that time was a very expensive, slow dial-up connection, I finally gave up after sending many emails for about 6 months. At that time, there was a place that claimed to change an HTML subscription to a text only.

I have now moved back to the USA and could handle the HTML, but don’t accept HTML email because of security concerns. With MS putting the Registration/Activation Wizard in new versions of both Windows and Office, the text or html versions are probably only going to be of interest for a limited time.
