Following the succesfull tips from post 749900 would anyone have any ideas how to improve the attached photo which is out of focus/blury? I’m using Paint Shop Pro photo X2 as my image editor of choice but playing around as I might I can’t seem to get it to look anything. I think it may be too far out in the original to do anything. The original is 1280 x 960 and 328KB and the attached has been cropped, resized to show here. Gratefull for any suggestions as it’s a “one off shot” and would mean a lot to the couples’ daughter to maybe get a print from it.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 2, 2009 at 6:34 am #1145297I think it’s motion blur (for example, look at how the man’s shirt buttons appear to be doubled). Some programs can correct the blur to some extent if you can precisely identify the direction of motion. If it turns out that the motion was not in a straight line, then I think it might be very difficult to get a reasonable result.
If your software doesn’t have this kind of correction, you could try Focus Magic: http://www.focusmagic.com/examplemotionblur.htm%5B/url%5D. The trial lets you run 10 image corrections before you have to register it.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 2, 2009 at 9:34 am #1145311Thanks for that, I think it’s motion blur but not in one direction, more like camera shake before cameras had image stabalisation built in. Tried sharpen and unsharp mask on image editor but not very successful. Tried focus magic which looks a handy tool but used up 4 of the free attempts experimenting and didn’t have much luck with that either. Looks like nothing can be done. Pity but sometimes even modern technology has limitations.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 2, 2009 at 6:36 pm #1145428How about this Jeff?
I used Focus Magic in th trial version. You only get 10 goes before you purchase it but it gets rid of motion blur

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 16, 2009 at 11:49 pm #1147580Corel has assorted 30-day free trial offers available HERE, including CorelDraw, which includes Photo-Paint which is their top-of-the-line photo editor. It has a steep learning curve, however, so one of their easier products might be preferable, especially since they are less expensive to purchase if you decide to buy. Thirty days is a more comfortable learning-period if you are shopping around, and a generous amount of free use.
Come to think of it, Adobe has trial downloads as well, so if you want to try PhotoShop or PhotoShop Elements, you might go HERE.
