In 2010 Word & Excel I receive the following message…

“The Help viewer has encountered an unexpected problem and cannot continue.”

BUT… the help works fine in Powerpoint. I have Reset IE all to no avail. Any other ideas on what to try? TIA

      Hi Dennis

I see you have already reset your Windows IE.

When you access Microsoft Excel’s help window, the content is either ‘local’ or ‘online’.
The default Online help is via a remote server on the Internet. Delays can occur while the browser help window loads (especially if you have a dodgy connection or don’t have any internet connection).
Note: Using online help allows Microsoft to track what topics you and others are requesting help on. Personally, you may find it much faster to use the local help files stored on your computer.
So, changing your help settings to ‘local’ may be an option. And uncheck this box in the Privacy settings..

Thanx so much for the input… that did not solve the problem either… guess I will have to live with it and use google as my work around.
