I made my reservation for the Windows 10 upgrade and over the past two days it’s downloaded to my two Windows 7 Ultimate PCs. But MS is offering me around 35 updates for Windows 7 and various MS applications, yet I cannot download them because, if I do, Windows 10 starts to automatically upgrade both of my computers. I don’t want to do that. And the more I think about it, the less interested I am in even using 10.

Is there any way to remove the Windows 10 upgrade software from my PCs? It may be free, but I don’t know that I want to install it this early in its lifetime. Too many snags and issues. But now I can’t find a way to get rid of it. It’s very insistent on installing the upgrade.

Any thoughts would be most welcome.

      Modon,

If you see the Windows 10 upgrade listed as an optional update UNcheck the check mark, RIGHT click on it and click on Hide Update.

If you already have reserved the upgrade I can not help, sorry.
If you have NOT YET reserved the upgrade you can turn the nagging off as follows (from memory, please forgive):

        [*]Administrative Tools
        [*]Computer Management
        [*]Task Scheduler
        [*]Task Scheduler Library
        [*]Microsoft
        [*]Windows
        [*]Setup
        [*]gwx

In the (big) center box you find 2 or 4 entries. For each entry Right click, then click Disable.

Exit out of computer management via File, Exit.

Reboot the computer. The upgrade nag will not run anymore.

Thanks, Eike. Unfortunately I did make the reservation. Now I need to find a way to get rid of the Windows 10 copy that downloaded. MS is more than nagging now. When I boot a second PC, it virtually automatically begins the installation. I’m going to find pro help to get rid of that copy of 10.

      From: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3080351

To suppress the offer to upgrade Win7 SP1 or Win8.1 to Win10 through the registry, set the following registry values:

      Subkey: HKLMSOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsWindowsUpdate

      DWORD value: DisableOSUpgrade = 1

If the keys don’t exist create them.

I have applied this hack to this Win7 Pro SP1 PC and several customers’ W7/W8 computers and it seems to have done the job so far.
