The other day I was asked how does one use the Master patch list?  There are several ways you can use the list. First off if you don’t want to delve i

Susan, I’m a Mac user and rely on input before installing any OS or iOS updates. I’ve yet to install any iOS 16 updates and am waiting for an all clear on 16.1 before making the move…likewise for OS Ventura. What inputs or user feedback will you use to give the install recommendation? Nathan Parker used to do this in his KnowledgeBase article. Thank you.

Given that Ventura is supposed to be out tomorrow, clearly it’s too soon to install it 🙂 Once it releases I’ll post and monitor for issues.

I’ve been on 16 releases on my iphone.  The only thing I’m still trying to get to the bottom of is “dimness” setting. It keeps being dim in the morning and I have to manually adjust it on my phone.

Susan, you men the new iOS 16 ‘alway-on’ display that dims the Lock Screen on iPhone 14 pro/max instead of powering screen off ?

If so, you can Turn Always-On display off or on or put the iPhone lying face down…

No I mean some sort of bug that keeps dimming the screen overnight and even when I pick it up it won’t brighten up the screen.  I don’t mind the always on, I do mind having to adjust the screen even when I’ve unlocked it.

Have you set ‘Night Shift’ to on ?
Control Center – press on the brightness slider – night shift

I have turned always on to off and that made the brightness “stick” to where this morning I wasn’t having to manually adjust it.

My iPhone 14 Pro Max with ‘always on’ has no such problem (running iOS 16.1)

In perusing Steve Gibson’s show notes, starting on page 5 he has a section about problems with Microsoft’s apparent failure to adequately update their known malicious kernel driver list.  His source is an ArsTechnica article.

From looking over the Microsoft documentation mentioned, it looks like we may need to kludge together some GPO that copies the appropriate extracted and renamed vulnerable drivers binary SiPolicy.p7b to “%windir%\system32\CodeIntegrity” and then have the GPO execute the WDAC policy refresh tool…

Any idea if Microsoft plans to actually fix Windows Update / WSUS to distribute the updated vulnerable drivers policy, or is this something we’re going to need to regularly patch business systems with, outside Windows Update / WSUS?

Yes, they’ve said that they plan to push it out via Windows update.  I’ll let you know when they do.  I have an upcoming article in CSOonline.com about this. The current workaround is kludgy.
