Ok, I screwed up. Refurbished an old PC. Removed failed HDD and installed an SSD. Installed fresh copy of Win 7 Home, but forgot to select appropriate setting in BIOS. Ran AS-SSD benchmark and noticed system is set to IDE instead of AHCI – argh!

How do I correct this? Encountered this same issue years ago, yet can’t quite remember how to fix it. Vaguely recall editing the Registry, but the details escape me. Can someone remind me of the steps to change from IDE to AHCI after Windows has already been installed, please?

      From Microsoft’s site:

Open regedit, navigate to (depending on your configuration):

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\msahci
and set “Start” entry value to “0

      or

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\IastorV
and set “Start” entry value to “0

After modifying registry, reboot and change Mode from “IDE” to “AHCI” in BIOS settings.

      Notice:

Some sites, like InformatiWeb, recommend to change both (instead of one, as stated on Microsoft’s site) registry entries mentioned above, together with:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\pciide

and set “Start” entry value to “0

Thanks for your replies. It’s Win 7 so i did the “msahci/start” to 0 then rebooted into BIOS and changed IDE to AHCI. Performance is noticeably improved.

Now, i discovered another issue. In Device Manager it says the “Coprocessor” is not installed. I don’t have the Zotac driver disk, and the Zotac support website doesn’t list this model (Zotac MAG HD-ND01). Clicking on the Update Driver/ Search Automatically option in Device  Manager no longer works, as you know.

Does anyone know where i can get this Coprocessor driver, please?

My reply below (#2409786) was supposed to be indented right where this reply is. Dunno what happened.

      @joep517 or other MVPs here:

Could @WSStarvinmarvin simply need a chipset driver to solve this issue of a missing driver for the coprocessor?

If so, I may have found a place for it to be downloaded from. It appears to be the same file that’s found on the CD. I’ve already run the site through Virustotal and it came up clean, not one single hit.

As it’s W7 you need to check that TRIM is working.
      Checking TRIM

      cheers, Paul

Thanks for the reminder. I used the simple method from the Technet site from years ago:

Start/cmd/run as administrator/fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify

The command returned “0”, thus TRIM is enabled.

Not true. You must use TRIMCHK to test it properly.

          cheers, Paul

Since no one has chimed in regarding that archived site can you provide the link, please? I will check all the files before attempting any driver install. Will also do a system image backup before installing any of them. Thanks.

My GF said, “Did you contact Zotac and ask them for whatever it is you need?”

So, I did. Zotac responded with a link to download everything for the Zotac MAG, thus proving once again that girls are smarter than boys 😀

      Here’s the link:

Except for one thing…when you actually click on the download links to download most anything from that page, all that comes up is a “Forbidden” message in a white box!  🙁

The only thing that I was able to successfully attempt to download from that page is the brochure listed in the very first link on that page in orange, before any of the other download categories listed. It’s the little orange link above the entire list that says “ZBOX ND01 (434.04 kb)”

I’ve found another page from Zotac that dates back to 2011 from a Zotac server meant for Korea. Has Korean writing on it and everything. BUT, the most important part…it has the file names and very basic descriptions in English. I’ve been successful in attempts to get the items on that page to begin downloading.

Since the site dates back to 2011, it’s only in http, NOT https, so your browser may complain about it that the sky is falling.  😉

At the bottom of the page, there’s a copyright notice from 2006-2011 with Zotac’s name on it.

Hmm, that’s weird. I went there earlier today and downloaded all the drivers, specs, user guide, everything, with no problem. After reading your post a few minutes ago, I went back there and, again, no problems. Bob99, I fear you may have run afoul of the internet driver download cabal, and the Zotac enforcement ogres are, therefore, out to prevent you from having fun. How else to explain this?
