“I hid the updates using whshowhide, but they installed anyway.”
If you have ever experienced this, here is an explanation and a way to avoid it in the future.

My method for hiding/avoiding KB 4023057 (and any other updates you do not want):

Be sure your Network connections are set to metered connections each time before shutting down the computer. That way, you are on Metered connections when you boot up.

+ Boot computer with metered connections on.
+ Immediately run wushowhide. (Advanced\uncheck auto fix)
+ Hide KB 4023057 (and whatever other updates you do not want).
+ Open Services – highlight Windows Update Service, Disable, Apply, Stop the service (upper left)
+ Restart the computer (not shutdown/bootup)
+ Open Services – highlight Windows Update Service, set to Manual, Apply, DO NOT start the service. Close Services.
+ Immediately run wushowhide and verify the update(s) are hidden, then verify they are not available to be hidden.
+ Disconnect from the Internet (Use one of these methods and be SURE you have no connection: remove the Ethernet cable, disable wifi, or  disable the NIC(s))
+ Go to Settings\Update & Security\Windows Update and click  “Check for Updates.” This should give you an error or “Retry.” Close Settings.
    + Reconnect the Internet.
+Restart the computer. This should allow Windows Update to search for updates without clicking on “Check for Updates” again and refresh the Windows Update queue.
+ Now you should be able to open Settings\Updates and Security and update without getting the hidden updates. Once you see that only the ones you want are there, turn off Metered connections and allow download.
+ Reset connections to Metered BEFORE the Restart.

If you do not follow the above procedure, the updates you have supposedly hidden may not be cleared from the Settings\Updates and Security\Windows update queue and will thus be downloaded and installed in spite of the fact you THINK you have hidden them.

NOTE: some instructions about disconnecting the Internet have been added 12/10/2018.

This is worthy of an AKB for traceability, especially in light of what has just happened to v1809 at ‘feature upgrade’ release.

      just sayin..

Windows - commercial by definition and now function...

      Hi PKCano,

I’m on 1703 and was offered KB4023057 again on Sunday 7th, having hid it some while ago. I hid it again using wushowhide and it was successfully hidden. (I have all the recommended settings and have both WiFi and Ethernet set to Metered.)

On Tuesday 9th, I was offered it again and wushowhide said nothing to hide. After a little think, I unhid it and hid it again. Then rebooted. It was still there in Windows Update. waiting for me to click download.

Frankly I don’t feel very safe with KB4023057 hovvering. Any suggestions on how I can suppress it more firmly? (other than the above ones).

I am wondering – does the metered connection setting influence anything other than Windows Update? For example frequency of mail checking, OneDrive synchronisation etc.?

@radosuaf Setting metered has little effect on Windoze 10 more minor irritations than anything else, Outlook 2010 no worries, Outlook 2016/19 you get a nag message when checking mail that has to be cancelled but connected to an Exchange Server after that initial “nag” no problem all day if running with Outlook open. UWP apps don’t always update in the background and that can be a blessing in disguise, Outlook Mail UWP desktop still displays Outlook mail as it comes in if running at the same time. Yes even the Album art downloads if your running Groove in the background (lol still using here 😉 ) Office Templates will download in Word 2016/19 without hassle when you need one. Day to day use its really not a major inconvenience at all. One Drive “nags” at boot for synching although I use One Drive like a network Drive as and when Req. there’s a Howto in the Windows Club. Defender updates need a prompt to download over a Metered Connection, as do Cumm updates, occasionally needing to be taken off metered for the really big ones and that’s about it.
