This might be a question of not knowing what something is called to know what to look for.

I am wanting to set up a mailing address so that my local artists group can send an email to everyone in the group by just mailing to one address, and then the email will get sent out to everyone.

Currently we all have the list of email addresses on our own computers, but people use reply all and email addresses get typos, they change, people join the group but people use reply all on old emails so the newcomers miss out, etc, etc. In short, it’s a complete mess!

So I’d love to be able to set up an address in, say, gmail, which contains the definitive list of everyone’s email address. Any changes and updates get made on that one list. People will then send their emails to that address only and everyone will get the emails! Simple!

And probably easily done, but I don’t even know what to call it to know where to start looking.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Would creating a Yahoo Group or Google Group work?

An alternative route would be Mail Chimp, free to non-profits, which is what you sound to be.

I use it four to six times a year, to a mailing list of about 570. They give very good feedback, reports on who has opened and clicked through, and bounce and unsubscribe reports.

You need a master mailer in this case, perhaps not exactly what you describe.

Thanks JohnFleming. I don’t think that is what I am after – I need all the members to be able to send an email to all of the other members. Mail Chimp sounds like something for a website to send updates out to all its subscribers. Is that right?

I use Mail Chimp to send out an HTML newsletter to ~570 people, but Mail Chimp sends singly to each of them, and I do not expose the eMail addresses of any of my members to any of the other 569 recipients.

You want to do precisely the opposite, the much derided “reply-to-all”, though that IS what you and your group actually want here.

I’ve been using Yahoogroups for many years, for 4 email lists. You can control privacy easily, post pictures, lots of options.

      Hi,

I am using Windows Live Mail for that purpose, excellent!

The easiest way would be to set up a Yahoo group. A more secure way would be to create a listserv. You would need to check with your Internet Service Provider to learn if he offers something like Mailman to manage a listserv. Listservs provide more security for a group’s subscribers.

I have numerous addresses that are incorrect or duplicates and ones from FaceBook that I want to either correct or remove. How is it possible to do this? Cameron
