How to set up wifi extender using a spectrum router that does not hav a wps butt

I have been trying to find a wifi extender that will work with my spectrum router that does not have a wps button. I know that spectrum will rent one for $3.00 a month but I would rather purchase my own and not have to pay each month. I hope some one can help me. Thanks.

Does the router have a WPS connect option in the router settings? (Mine has, but it also has a WPS button.)

I use the Tp-link  AC1750 Mesh WiFi Extender.  It has 3 different ways to set it up: Their app downloaded to a smart phone, or thru a web browser and their web site, or thru the router WPS button.  I set mine up with the app on my smart phone that is connected to the router via Wi-Fi.  It is real easy to set up, no WPS button used,  and is working great.  It uses the WPA2 security of the router.
