I am using Outlook 2000 (9.0.0.2711) and I have an intermittent problem with viewing HTML formatted Email. I subscribe to several newsletters that are delivered in HTML. (Including one of Woody’s) I can go for weeks sometimes with no trouble. I can read the entire message from top to bottom. All of a sudden, the next time I open Outlook I can read only the top few inches of the message.

The HTML is fine. The message doesn’t break down into the raw code or anything, it just cuts off.

Also it makes no difference if I am reading it in the Preview pane or if I open the message. Also if I have a message saved that was fine when I first received it, when this “problem” kicks in even the saved message is affected.

I’ve searched repeatedly all over the ‘net and have found no explanation. From reading some of the other threads in the Lounge, I figure this is my best hope for an answer.

    Thanks to all in advance.

does it only affect html? i’ve heard a similar problem with all mail arriving as plain text and restarting outlook corrects it.

It only affect HTML. Regular text can be very long and there is no problem. Thanks for the quick responce.

when it happens, existing html mail is affected as well, correct?

that means it’s a problem within outlook, not the transmission of the message. try closing outlook and reopening to see if it fixes it.

Thanks again. I have nothing saved right now to check. It midnight right now in the Eastern USA so I’m about to turn in. Tomorrow night if things are still goofed up I’ll try the closing and reopening and will then advise.

Latest update. This evening all HTML formatted newsletters are still cut off. I have tried shutting Outlook down and restarting it. This made no difference.

As I mentioned before, it makes no difference if I view this in the preview pane, or if I open the Email to read it.
Also, when I “View Source” the message is truncated even in the source. What I’m trying to say is I don’t think the problem is in how Outlook renders the page so much as that something is cutting the file off.

I am not aware of anything I have changed that would cause this and from time to time HTML will display properly. This is not a serious problem but surely is an ongoing puzzle. I’m willing to explore any suggestions.

I assume that the rendering of HTML messages in Outlook is controlled by the Internet Explorer component of Windows, and that a full restart of Windows might be necessary to restore its functionality. If it’s really something in the messages themselves, perhaps back up your .pst and compact it. Any .pst corruption would make me very nervous.

              The saga continues…

Once again I have changed nothing in Outlook nor in Internet Explorer, yet this evening all of the HTML Email is complete. If I were to save any of these and later view them when I am experiencing the problem they too would be cut off. The suggestion of backing up and compacting the .pst file is probably a good idea. It can’t hurt but I just don’t know why this comes and goes.

Has anyone else ever experienced this?
