DuckDuckGo is my default search engine in Firefox. This morning it offered a link to download their browser, so I did, v0.42.7. Read the link for more information. I’m on it now; so far, so good. It renders pages quickly. I’ll continue to use it for a while to see how well it blocks trackers and ads. In settings I selected “Let DuckDuckGo manage cookie consent pop-ups.”

Are you using it in place of another browser? Or in addition to another browser? Is the other browser Firefox? If so, are you able to make comparisons? I wonder what the pros and cons of each are.

No, yes, yes, yes. Only a couple of cons so far; there are as yet no extensions for the browser, and its YouTube player doesn’t do full screen (but it will also use YouTube’s player if I want). As for pros, it seems to be very aggressive against tracking cookies. It also can take over the cookie warning of websites and automatically select only the necessary cookies for the site.
So far it seems to be just as quick as Firefox. I’m still checking it out.

AskWoody PlusJune 25, 2023 at 4:34 pm #2568685I decided to give it a test drive also. Installation was smooth. Here’s the Revo basic item count.
Oddly enough my page rendering with it is exceptional slow. Unusable at this point.
I’ll try it after a computer restart in bit and post back here if the rendering it improved.

AskWoody PlusJune 26, 2023 at 8:16 pm #2569007A restart of the DuckDuckGo browser beta didn’t improve the page render speed. I don’t have the desire dig deeper than that at this time so I’ve uninstalled it.
While the DDG browser installs as a UWP app, I was able to log the installation with Revo Uninstaller Pro. I’m attaching the Revo log “RUEL” file if any Revo users would like to see the DDG Beta install details.

AskWoody PlusJune 25, 2023 at 11:59 pm #2568724Thanks for the info that DuckDuckGo browser is available for Windows. My default for Windows 10 and 11 is Firefox.
I have been using DuckDuckGo browser for Mac for ~ a year, first in the private beta. I have the standalone v1.43.1 and see that it has been available in the Mac App Store for 4 months starting at v 1.33 and currently also V1.143.1.
It is my go to browser for mail links, quick searches, parcel tracking and with fireproofing; some of my log-ins.
Having used the private email extension in Firefox and Edge, the native in DuckDuckGo browser is great.
The handling of cookie pop-ups has improved and now only get occasional interruptions.
I was able to sign in to Pocket on with my Firefox account and though there is no dedicated extension have just added the Ars Technica article link using the + (add url) option.
