    Image for Windows TBwinRE image not enough space on target location

    I have a new win 11 pro HP elitebook 640 G11.

    I saw on AskWoody or somewhere else that people take clean  images of the new PC/laptop before booting into the new Laptop and going hrough OOBE.

    They use a USB boot key ( in my case Image For Windows TBwinRE) and attach an external Hard Drive entering through the BIOS.

    I have formatted an internal hard drive in an enclosure as which is 4 TB, as GPT and created 500 MB partitions.

    I installed Image for Windows 4.04 (Terabyte Unlimited) on my current PC and created the TBwinRE.

    There are two issues I need help with:

    First Issue: Image for Windows TBwinRE image not enough space on target location event though only 77.3 MB was used. Image fails.

    1. IFW from the TBWinRE only created two image files totalling 77.3 MB:
    2. <li style=”text-align: left;”>There is 422 MB free on the partition IFW fails saying there is no more space on the target drive. What is causing this issue? what can I do to fix it. I am using multifile.
      <li style=”text-align: left;”>filename: hp pc before oobe may 2 2025 Backup-w0-2025-05-02-2015_0.tbi is 42.6 MB and contains EFI-Boot-HP and EFI-Boot-Microsoft-languages- and recovery and also contains System Volume Information.
      <li style=”text-align: left;”>filename: hp pc before oobe may 2 2025 Backup-w0-2025-05-02-2015_1.tbi is 14.8 MB and contains a Microsoft Reserved Partition.

       Second Issue:

    When Image starts backing up from the boot USB on TBWinRE it complains that PhyLock is not there.  I say go ahead and it goes ahead and gets the above error.

    I dont see how to add Phylock on the TBWinRE as a plugin or change some Phylock/VSS settings in IFW general settings before I create the TBWinRE?

    Is this causing the above space issue?

    I appreciate any help in advance.

    Thank you in advance for your help;

      When you create the TBWinRE USB drive, it uses the configuration settings that you have configured for IFW (Settings button on the launch screen). Check the PHYLock/VSS tab for your configuration.

      This tutorial is in two parts.

      Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!
      We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems; we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things.

      and created 500 MB partitions

      A full image backup of Windows OS is several Gigabytes (~5+) not Megabytes.

        @bbearren and @Alex5723,

        Thank you for your quick helpful replies.
        I was successful in creating the image for the laptop pre-OOBE.

        I followed @bbearren ‘s tutorials and adjusted the settings accordingly, especially on the PHYlock/VSS tab. I still got the same error on PHYLock but clicked on the dialog to use aggressive locking and was successful.

        I used much larger partitions, in Gigabytes, instead of Megabytes. The Image for the pre-OOBE laptop is using 34 Gigabytes. Going forward, my image partitions will be 200 Gigabytes at least as I will be installing applications and their data, and we have documents and other items on our current hard drive.

        Thank you again,
