Insert Address/Select Name (2003)

I upgraded to Word 2003 and continued to use the Insert Address facility, with the Names coming in from Outlook.
The Select Name dialogue box that you get having done an “Insert Address” has field names on it and . You can’t click on these and get a different display order neither do they appear to have any connection with how the names are sorted in Outlook.

A big problem is that the names in the Select Name dialogue box appear to be sorted on First Names so that Andrew Zachs is at the top whilst Zelda Appleton is at the bottom.

I have experimented with the Autotext AddressLayout facility in Word but this just alters what is pasted into the Word document, not the order in which the names appear in the dialogue box.

Is there any way of changing the order in which the names are presented in the Select Name dialogue box? I think this is a Word problem as I have changed sort order in Outlook, any changes there have had no effect on the
Select Name dialogue box order.

Would be pleased to receive any suggestions as to how this can be resolved.

Hi Tony,

I had the same problem but when I made the following change in Outlook it fixed it for me. Is this what you tried?

From Outlook:
On the Tools menu, click E-mail accounts.
Click View or change directories or address books, and then click Next.
Click Outlook Address Book, and then click Change.
Under Outlook Address Books, click the address book that you want to change the contact display format for. For example, Contacts: Personal Folders, and then click File As (Smith, John).
Click Close, and then click Finish.
