I am trying to install Outlook using the Custom Installation Wizard. Office was already installed on the machines (directly installed from CD and copied from machine to machine using a ghost image). The CIW was not used, and Office was not located at an administrative installation point at the time. The existing installation of Office 2000 does not include Outlook at all.
I have now set up an administration installation point, and would like to install Outlook. However, the only way that I can get Outlook installed using the transform (MST file) that I created using the CIW is to completely uninstall office using Add/Remove Programs before running the CIW created installation. The CIW installation is run from a shortcut in the admin installation point. The command line reads:

    W:Ms02ksetup.exe transforms=w:ms02ksetup2.mst /qn+

Is there anyway to get the setup to install without completely removing the existing installation of Office?

Have you read : OL2000: How to Configure Outlook Settings in the Custom Installation Wizard ? While the Microsoft “Search” doesn’t give much away, Google gives a fair amount of hits on the MS Site

      Hope this helps,

What does O2K mean Please? I have Outlook 98 loaded on a machine with 98 platform, it is a personal machine use only. I have a problem in that I loaded Outlook 98 from a stand alone disc I cannot find. Is there any way to copy the existing Outlook 98 to my new machine without the disc? If I select all the files in Outlook 98 on my machine will it be possible to somehow get them to work on my new machine, I am at a loss where to start? I have looked for information on this everywhere and cant find an answer including Microsoft online help and every site relating to Outlook 98. No answers there. This is the first time I have joined a Newsgroup to ask. Ive also looked at the folder containing Outlook 98 and cannot see anything that seems to be the setup or execution icon? Can anybody help? Thank you very much, Jude

It generally “isn’t safe” and “doesn’t work” to try to copy Office applications from one machine to another. Zillions of tiny settings are tweaked by the install program, and this is just not possible to replicate manually, even if the very long instructions to do so could be perfected.

Outlook 98 is still available at used book stores in the back of one of Microsoft’s “step by step” books (I believe; there are posts on this on the Outlook board). That’s your best bet unless you have a lot of time to crawl the web looking for a download. Or a friend who has it.

Or, if you only use Outlook 98 for mail, you could switch to Outlook Express.

          Oh… O2K = Office 2000 wink

Edited to add: You beat me to it, but here’s my response anyway.
          O2K – Office 2000.

I don’t recommend ‘copying’ Outlook from one computer to another. There are registry entries involved in the installation of most software these days, and I know I could spend days wandering through the registry looking for said entries – and would probably mess up another part of my computer in the process. I suggest you find the original disc, or buy an new version sorry.

Hi there! I’ve only looked at the CIW a couple times, but I thought there was an option when creating the MST to uninstall (or not) the prior as part of the installation.

Unless I’m reading your post or this TechNet article wrong (and consider the time here now that’s possible) I would say you might want to attempt the CMW wizard instead of the CIW.

Good luck and I hope this is helpful.

Unfortunatly, I cannot use the CMW wizard because I am dealing with Office 2000, not Office XP, and I cannot use the ‘remove previous versions’ option because it only recognizes versions of office prior to office 2000.
This whole thing is growing more confusing by the moment!

Ahhhh, I just went to the Resource Kit website and saw that they have a CMW for O2K as well as XP (it was not included as part of the lousy Resource Kit book I bought . smash

Thanks for the heads up – I think this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

I’m happy it got you going the right direction. Now… if only it works the way you need it too… crossfingers

Well, it is working. I am able to install Outlook to the machines, but the problem now is that since Office was originally installed from a cd, and now we are using an administrative installation, I cannot get the CMW to work without pointing it to the new location in the middle of the install. But, still I am so much further than I was 24 hours ago. Thanks again!
