Dell XPS15, Win 11 21H2 (I originally posted this in the wrong category, sorry)

I recently succumbed to Microsoft nagging me and updated my Dell XPS to Windows 11. I have a second 4K monitor attached via the HDMI port and under Windows 10 the monitor was detected without fail.

Since updating to Windows 11 it seems that every alternate time I reboot the laptop the second monitor is not detected. Start > Power > Restart and it appears (but I have to relocate all the relevant windows onto the second monitor again, because they’ve been repositioned on the primary display).

It could be an alternate boot thing, or it could be an elapsed time thing, because I tend to leave the laptop on for a week between reboots (except for those forced by software updates).

What is likely to be happening here, and how could I fix it? There’s nothing obvious in the event log (but I probably don’t know what I should be looking for).

I have a second problem under Win 11 but I’ll create a separate post for that.

    cheers
    T
