is there a home networking guide

Could somebody point me to a definitive guide or post that details how to set up & fix home networking issues?

I have two Win 98 SE PCs and one Win98 SE Japanese PC able to share directories no problem. I added a Win XP machine and finally got it to share directories with the other machines but it only worked once and hasn’t worked for the most part since then.

I’ve found a lot of posts across the Internet indicating that people have had lots of similar problems with networking with XP. I have tried the various suggested solutions but still no luck. So, anyway, see my question at the top.

If you want a book, “This Wired Home” written by Alan N. from Microsoft Press is great. I teach SOHO Networking and of the many books I have reviewed this is the best, I use it for our class text book.
