Win 20H2 Home. HP laptop with second monitor.

Did normal May updates 5/27 with no problems.

    Paused updates few days later.

KB4023057 unexpectedly installed 6/14 with no problems in spite of paused.

KB5003637 unexpectedly tried to install 6/22 but failed in spite of paused.

Immediately after failed install the second monitor flashed error, “Invalid input data, change resolution to “something like” 1440 x 900.”

Tried multiple resolution changes with no success. Thought second monitor had died. Then switched off laptop setting “Duplicate monitors” and set to “Display Monitor 2 only”. Second monitor worked perfectly. Switched to “Display Monitor 1 only” and laptop monitor worked perfectly. Tried again “Display both monitors” and second monitor failed along with icons rearranged on laptop monitor. Tried again single monitors alone and all okay.

So did anyone else have monitors going crazy with KB5003637? And why did it bypass the pause?

Follow up to my original post above.

First displayed installed updates so I could try uninstall. KB5003637 did not appear in installed updates. Neither did the 6/14 KB4023057 appear.

I then looked at Settings/Update and Security/Recovery to see if I could go back. That display said no recovery available as I had updated more than 10 days ago (what kind of nonsense is that?)

I then went to the old ControlPanel/ReviewYourComputerStatus/Recovery/OpenSystemRestore and it had two restores 6/22 (the day the problem started) and 6/21 (that date showed no install on the installed update list in Settings/Update. So I did a restore on the 6/22 backup. Restore worked fine but did not fix the problem. So I did a second restore on the 6/21 date and Walaa both monitors started working correctly as before.

From other searches on this site I see KB5003637 is barreling through both Pause and Metered connections and apparently causes all sorts of problems. Not very nice Microsoft!
