On my HP Envy Laptop, KB5032189 has failed to install 4 times since 11/18 .  Error code 0x8024001e.  Currently stuck for hours on “74% installing.”

On my Dell Desktop XPS 8930, KB5032189 had failed to install 7 times since 11/19.  Error Code the same:  0x8024001e.  Currently stuck on “44% installing.”  Previously saw “100 installing.”  Don’t know why it’s now at 44%.

Both running Windows 10 Home version 22H2.  Both using Windows Defender for Virus Protection.

This is more than a coincidence on two separate computers.  Any suggestions  short of some manual, brute strength solution?  I hope I’m posting this in the right place and in the correct manner.  Thank you.

Is there any other third party software installed?

Would you be comfortable following these commands?

Ultimately you can do a repair install over the top.

Thank you for your quick responses.  Last night, after posting my inquiry, I restarted both computers while they were stalled at high percentage “installing.”  After the usual messages not to turn off the computer because Windows was working,  my “Update History” now shows KB5032189 has apparently been successfully installed on each computer.

Interestingly (to me, probably not to you all), the previous “failure to install” messages have been deleted from the history.

Here’s hoping the “successfully  installed” messages are accurate and that no key components were omitted by my restarting in the middle of the “stalled” installation.

Thank you for your suggestions.  For the future benefit of others, I will be glad to answer an questions you may have that might help.  Again, thank you.

If you go to the File Information section towards the bottom of November 14, 2023—KB5032189 (OS Builds 19044.3693 and 19045.3693 you can download the list of files contained in the Cumulative Update and the Servicing Stack Update.  The list includes names, dates, version numbers, file sizes and so forth that you can use to verify the files that are now on your system.

For what its worth Windows Update error code 0x8024001e means “Operation didn’t complete because the service or system was being shut down.” A reference for WU error codes is at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/update/windows-update-error-reference

*Just for information, I got this sorted in the end.*

I had problems with this update as well, it would seemingly progress, then fail saying something about “files missing or corrupted”. I don’t recall the error code offhand.

Windows update troubleshooter couldn’t find a problem.

Anyhow,I cleared the update cache , ran dism and sfc, rebooted and still got the same error.

I ended up repeating this once more, but downloaded the update via the catalogue instead and manually installing, which worked thankfully.

I was all set for doing a repair installation or reinstall, so that was a relief.

Using bitdefender (not my choice) so I don’t know if that’s a factor?

I had a similar failure the previous month, but that worked second time around without resorting to any of the above.

Anyway, I hope that information is of some use to someone out there.

      🙂
